Our capoeira training is now happening in a club format. You can become a member of our club by making a recurring monthly donation of $30 (kids $20) to Capoeira Santa Fe below. This way you can participate for free in our trainings. Learn the movements, music and cultural history of this fun Brazilian art form created originally by African slaves in their struggle for liberation! It is as much a martial art as a practice of movement and body awareness involving strength, flexibility, trickery and joking. In the past decades, capoeira has gone out from Brazil, creating schools and groups all over the world. On the shoulders of the tradition, each mestre and each local group create their own unique cultural expression with it. We are looking forward to sharing ours with you!
The best way to start playing capoeira with us is to come to our training Saturday mornings 9am at the Railyard Performance Center next to the Farmers Market taught by our associate teacher Juan Acevedo (Capoeira Ijexá) and sometimes by visiting teachers. Families welcome! This is a short class, please come 10 minutes early to sign in. Typically it goes until 9:45am, afterward we may go outside to play music until about 10:30am. Drop-in rate $10 (kids $5) per class, first class is free.
Kids classes with Águia (Helmut Hillenkamp). Wednesdays 5 - 6pm Railyard Performance Center. K - 6th grade. Come check it out! Kids can also come and train during our family classes Saturdays at 9am
Also available for club members:
Capoeira all levels with Tiago Renê Torres da Silva, Tuesdays 6 - 7:30 pm.
Rotations of Capoeira Boot Camp and Comprehensive Music with Juan Acevedo, Thursdays 6 - 7: 30 pm, all levels welcome.
Locations for these club activities may vary. Currently we meet at the garage between 501 and 503 Kathryn Avenue. This is a residential training space. Please be mindful of our parking situation and the neighbors. We would appreciate you parking your car a block or two away. If you are curious about capoeira, just come by and join us for free to try it out!
We have an after school training for teenagers at Monte del Sol Charter School and participate in their mentorship program. We may also rent other venues, or in the summer go outside into the park with our activities.
We collaborate with other regional capoeira groups offering a bi-monthly event called "Vamos Vadiar New Mexico" where we get together for a roda and share our game with each other.
Please wear long pants to class, abadas or trainer pants. We have a t-shirt and uniform pants for sale if you really want to dress for the occasion!
